BUCKINGHAM TRANSPORT DELIVERS SLUG CATCHER OVER 50 MILE MOVE ROUTE
Buckingham Heavy Transport delivered a 450,000-lb slug catcher from a bank along the Ohio river to an inland destination. The transport plan specified rotating the vessel to decrease load height. Buckingham Heavy Transport coordinated with the client to engineer and manufacture the saddles needed after the rotation, and provided the modifications required for rigging and roller placement for the rotation and multiple lifting and handling processes throughout shipment. Because the dock site for the river barge was not accessible by the dual lane trailer, Buckingham offloaded the vessel by barge crane to 12 lines of Goldhofer SMPT, drove it up the steep grade, then transloaded it via gantry to a dual lane trailer for highway transport. Buckingham was tasked with acquiring Highway Use permits to temporarily modify multiple turns along the 50-mile route. Through the use of vehicle tracking and swept path technology, Buckingham was able to identify and properly mitigate problematic turns along the route prior to the load’s arrival.
